Holtz-Eakin on the Stimulus Check: They Did It That Way to Have It Show Up Before the Midterms

GIGOT: “Talk about that stimulus,  where’s that coming from?  the tax bill basically avoided  a hue — huge tax increase.  where is it coming from?”

HOLTZ-EAKIN: “It was retroactive to  January 19th of this year.  the full expensing of equipment  investment and a lot of that  will come into the business  sector, one hundred billion.  some of the withholding tables  were not adjusted and household  refunds as well so I don’t  think that is an accident, they  show up before the midterms but  from the Federal Reserve’s  point of view that is insurance  on the downside of the labor  market and they should take  that into account and not do  much.”
