Alexandre De Croo, the administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, says priorities for Gaza aid and development are in the medical area.
“We know that there are risks of communicable diseases that are propagating, so providing medical support is crucial,” the former Belgian prime minister told Al Jazeera from the Doha Forum.
De Croo said the removal of the debris in the enclave was crucial; otherwise, “the health risk continues, and the reconstruction cannot start”.
He stressed a peace conference is needed for the “clarification of financing”.
“Financing can be broad, of course. It can be grants; it can also be loans,” he said.
De Croo concluded: “From the perspective of us, trying to help as many people as possible, the faster that peace conference is, the faster we can help people.”
