BENIN TRIES TO REMOVE THE PRESIDENT BUT THE COUP FAILS

Soldiers in Benin have announced on national TV the ousting of President Patrice Talon and seized power. The soldiers also announced a suspension of the constitution and closure of all land borders and the country’s airspace.
But in another statement enin’s Interior Minister, Alassane Seidou, says an attempted coup by “a small group of soldiers” has been foiled by the military.

He urged citizens to remain calm and resume their normal activities, delivering the message on national television.
