Tim Walz has recently acknowledged that a fraudulent operation has been active in Minnesota for several years. Nevertheless, he appears to have taken no steps to rectify the situation, as indicated by the current estimated loss of around $1 billion due to fraudulent activities in the state. Whistleblowers from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) have stated that they brought the fraud to Walz’s attention back in 2019, but their warnings went unheeded and were met with retaliation, which included surveillance, threats, and attempts to silence them.

The fraudulent activities, which are connected to pandemic-related food aid programs, are said to have begun during Walz’s administration in 2019. Over 480 employees of the Minnesota DHS assert that Walz was aware of the ongoing fraud in 2019 but opted not to take action; instead, he responded to whistleblowers with retaliation, permitting systemic problems to persist.

Although Walz has rejected any direct responsibility and claims he is responsible for enforcement measures, he has not acknowledged any shortcomings in preventing the fraud. Instead, he has sought to distinguish between fraud and corruption. This differentiation prompts speculation about what he might be attempting to hide and what he fears.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has accepted a total of $10,000 in donations, which includes $2,500 from Gandi Mohamed, who has subsequently been indicted on federal fraud charges.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s campaign received $7,400 from individuals who have since been found guilty of fraud. Additionally, she has held events at Safari Restaurant in Minneapolis, which was co-owned by Salim Ahmed Said, a key figure in the Feeding Our Future fraud case. Said was ultimately convicted for misusing millions from pandemic nutrition funds for personal luxuries, including a $2 million mansion and expensive shopping. In 2020, Omar was recorded at the restaurant praising a child nutrition program that was being exploited. Federal prosecutors have identified the restaurant as a major location for illicit activities connected to Feeding Our Future, leading Bill Glahn to contend that her numerous visits raise doubts about her lack of awareness regarding the scheme.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s re-election campaign accepted $9,000 from nine individuals who were implicated in the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scandal. This information has sparked worries about potential political connections to the fraud scheme that took advantage of funding meant for child nutrition during the pandemic.

State Senator Omar Fateh accepted $11,000 from contributors associated with a fraud case, including Muna Wais Fudhin, the 75th person to be charged. Jeremiah Ellison, who serves on the Minneapolis City Council and is the son of Keith Ellison, received $3,000 from individuals involved in the scandal. Furthermore, Shukri Olow, a Democratic contender in Washington state received $8,750 from ten individuals who were subsequently indicted in Minnesota. State Senator John Hoffman also received $3,000 in campaign donations from those connected to the Feeding Our Future welfare fraud scheme, including Mekfira Hussein and her family members, who were implicated in the fraudulent activities.
Ilo Amba, the spouse of Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman, is embroiled in a significant fraud scandal connected to the federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. She launched a nonprofit named Urban Advantage Services (UAS) in November 2020, aiming to provide meals for children through the USDA’s Child Nutrition Program. Unfortunately, UAS fell short in maintaining necessary records, submitting tax returns, or even operating from its designated office.
From 2020 to 2021, the nonprofit secured $461,533 in federal reimbursements, claiming to have fed an impressive 2,500 children daily at its peak. Amba’s network also includes Stigma-Free International, a nonprofit she co-founded with her husband in 2019. However, in February 2025, federal prosecutors alleged that this organization was a façade used to facilitate fraud under the Feeding Our Future program. As of December 2025, Amba is reportedly working as a homesnap realtor.

Investigations into Feeding Our Future continue, with additional trials on the horizon.
