Gameplay Part 8 (Finale)

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

Chapter 14 - Between the Realms:

Kratos and Atreus continue deciphering Tyr’s hidden mechanisms inside Tyr’s Temple, shifting entire rooms between realms to unlock the last steps toward Jötunheim. As they navigate realm-shifting puzzles and fight Hel-Walkers spilling through unstable tears, they uncover Tyr’s secret peacekeeping efforts and the true breadth of his travels across the realms. Their journey through the hidden chambers eventually reveals the final component they need to activate the Jötunheim tower, though the growing instability around the Lake of Nine hints that the window of opportunity is narrowing. With Mimir guiding them, they realign the Realm Travel Room and set the stage for the final push to the land of the giants.

Chapter 15 - Jötunheim in Reach:

Kratos and Atreus make their way to the restored Jötunheim Tower, ready at last to travel to the realm that holds Faye’s final wish. Just as the Bifröst begins to open the gate, Baldur launches a full assault, shattering their path to Jötunheim and dragging the trio into a chaotic battle across collapsing temple platforms. The fight spills onto the back of the World Serpent, and Kratos and Atreus are swallowed whole along with Baldur as Jörmungandr thrashes across the Lake of Nine. Inside the serpent’s cavernous interior, they locate Mimir’s lost eye and narrowly escape before being spewed back out into Midgard. The chapter ends with Baldur reemerging, angrier than ever, and the long-anticipated final confrontation looming over them.

Chapter 16 - Mother’s Ashes:

Kratos and Atreus face Baldur in a climactic battle at the base of the mountain, fighting through multiple transformations as Baldur’s curse is broken and his vulnerability — and pain — return. When Atreus stops Kratos from delivering the killing blow, Baldur attacks Freya in a final act of spite, forcing Kratos to intervene and end Baldur’s life to prevent a greater tragedy. Freya’s grief turns to fury, and she swears vengeance as Kratos and Atreus press onward to fulfill Faye’s last wish. Reaching the summit, they enter Jötunheim at last and discover the murals revealing that Faye was a Giant and had foreseen their entire journey. The chapter closes with Kratos and Atreus scattering Faye’s ashes from the highest peak and beginning their path forward as father and son — and as gods.
