Since we shared this video of Lester, who ran across the road on Sunday morning to abuse me at our neighbours place for putting videos up of his family fighting each other on the streets of Kuranda last week, he’s become somewhat famous.
At last count that video has had 4.3k views and has been shared 56 times – mostly by people who have made it more than obvious they don’t like us and mostly from people who live, work and play outside of Kuranda.
If, by some strange quirk of fate, you haven’t seen it - this is it.
These people have nothing to say other than having a go at us for daring to even mention or show a portion of the dysfunctional behaviour constantly on display by the minority of the 12% minority in Kuranda...
The left in action – or inaction depending on how one likes to view things.
Since we shared the video of Lester we have been almost inundated with membership requests from ALL over the place – Cooktown, Mossman, Townsville, Brisbane, Cairns and many places in between...mostly from indigenous people.
Even though we’ve declined their membership for any one or more of the reasons we decline peoples memberships for, they have still been added to the membership count – go figure...
If you’re not living currently in Kuranda or surrounds and you’re not a current paying ratepayer why are you here?
We don’t care if you are from here. If you left and are not living here anymore you are NOT a current resident so keep your mouth shut and watch from the sidelines or move back to Kuranda and help to clean this mess up.
We’ve made it quite clear that this is a community group for the community not any or every Tom, Dick and Harry that wants to have a spruke about shit that has nothing to do with them.
Help sort out your own backyards before you try and sort ours out.
It’s funny how people jump on any bandwagon they can without having any perspective as to why they’re even ‘on the bandwagon’ in the first place. This video, like any other we share, was shared to plant seeds– much like our ‘possible solutions’ article which clearly stated that ALL the alcohol restrictions in Far North Queensland needed to be removed even though most people didn’t even read the article…
The vast majority of people who started hurling abuse didn’t even read the article, they just assumed we wanted them strengthened, the restrictions, to include Kuranda when we didn’t.
We’ve been putting up with stuff like this for many years now.
For our newer members and those that missed it, there is a short, incomplete list of some of the experiences we’ve had whilst living at 10 Coondoo Street on our Kuranda Community website, just search 'You would be shocked' – get some perspective:
Imagine if this and more was going on out the front of your house for 14 years – how would you deal with it?
It’s come to our attention that Lester had only been in Kuranda for a few days.
Is Lester from Kuranda?
Does Lester actually live in Kuranda?
If so, and as Lester has only been in town for ‘a few days’, where has he been and why is he back in Kuranda being loud mouthed, aggressive, drunk and drugged up in Centenary Park, next to the children’s playground, partying all night non stop for 48 hours with a bunch of other people and on video at 5:30am (on the second morning) with his shirt off picking a fight with someone he obviously knows demanding respect from them?
Lester doesn’t understand the word respect. He wants it but refuses to give it – like so many others.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – for nearly three years we’ve been showing the Kuranda community and the rest of the world what the minority of the 12% minority get up to virtually unchecked in the open spaces and parks of Kuranda everyday and every night but to no avail.
We’ve highlighted the drunken, abusive racially motivated hatred and violent behaviour that the rest of the community and the thousands of visitors to Kuranda have to tolerate every single day at the hands of these people but to no avail.
Why is that? Why are the respective authorities virtually ignoring the issue?
Do they think it’s just going to go away or do they have other plans for Kuranda?
There is a reason we share the videos, take the images and write the articles we do, and that is to have this unacceptable behaviour stopped and to try to hold Mareeba Shire Council to account for the poor state of Kuranda.
The two are entwined together wouldn’t you say?
We plant seeds and hope some of them will germinate.
If you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem.
Lester doesn’t understand the word respect. He wants it but refuses to give it – like so many others.
