How to make a Sheepskin Coat with DIY Leather Craft Patterns. Shearling Jacket Tutorial.
Make a men's sheepskin coat with easy to use DIY leathercraft style patterns. A testament to timeless style with unparalleled warmth and quality. 10 sizes from XS to XXXL with sizes in between to dial in the fit. While the patterns are designed to sew by hand with every stitching hole and measurement figured out for you like my other sheepskin craft patterns. This one also works on a sewing machine. Instead of making flat sizes I made extra in between sizes to help really dial in the fit. The sizing and other pertinent information is listed below. Keep in mind for a good fit you'll want the chest measurement to determine how large a coat you make. If the stomach measurement tells you to make a larger size you will start to get a looser fit across the top of your torso. One size larger may be fine but if there is too much of a discrepancy between the stomach and chest you will have fit issues. As long as your not making a coat two or more sizes larger than what your chest measurement says to make in order to accommodate a larger stomach measurement you should be fine.

Chest measurement is taken right underneath the armpits (not over the arms), and the stomach measurement is taken around the stomach at belly button height. Sizing is as follows:
A. XS = 37" to 39.75" chest -&- 37" or less for stomach.
B. S = 40" to 41" chest -&- 38" or less for stomach.
C. M = 41" to 42.5" chest -&- 39.5" or less for stomach.
D. Between M&L = 42.5" to 43.75" chest -&- 40.75" or less for stomach.
E. L = 43.75" to 45" chest -&- 42" or less for stomach.
F. Between L&XL = 45" to 46" chest -&- 43" or less for stomach.
G. XL = 46" to 47.5" chest -&- 44.5" or less for stomach.
H. Between XL&XXL = 47.5" to 49" chest -&- 46" or less for stomach.
I. XXL = 49" to 50" chest -&- 47" or less for stomach.
J. XXXL = 50.25" to 51.75" chest -&- 49" or less for stomach.
I go over the sleeve length in the video. Basically the sleeves may be left unfolded if you have long arms. You can fold them if you have standard length arms or go with the shorter cut line in the pattern if you prefer not to fold it. If you have short arms you can go with the shorter cut line and fold the cuff.
The bare minimum square footage of sheepskin is listed below. However, you'll need to have more than that to compensate for the thin edges, holes the skins may have, and difficulty in making sure your parts are cut from quality sections. What isn't used for your coat may be used for mittens, slippers, and hats. I like to cut parts for the coat and one of those items at the same time to ensure the best yield from each skin.
A size you will need 29 square feet of sheepskin.
B size you will need 29.5 square feet of sheepskin.
C size you will need 30 square feet of sheepskin.
D size you will need 31 square feet of sheepskin.
E size you will need 32 square feet of sheepskin.
F size you will need 32.5 square feet of sheepskin.
G size you will need 34 square feet of sheepskin.
H size you will need 34.5 square feet of sheepskin.
I size you will need 36 square feet of sheepskin.
J size you will need 38 square feet of sheepskin.
