Hour 1:Trans Kids, Implications of Recent Australian Court Rulings.

There has been a lot of controversy about gender reassignment and related medical interventions for children.

The Queensland (QLD) government has stopped public doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and hormone therapies to new patients under 18 for gender dysphoria, implementing a ban through ministerial directives. This has faced legal challenges and ongoing debate, with the treatments remaining available privately. Will it become available again publicly - possibly.

Advocates for this treatment argue it's a harmful restriction contrary to best practices and the best interests of these children.

This is what the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, a corporate partner of News Corp Australia which receives significant support from the company states.

Transgender children and adolescents do not identify with the gender presumed for them at birth, and ongoing research is helping to better support their lifelong health and wellbeing.
Being transgender or gender diverse (collectively described as being trans) is part of the natural spectrum of human diversity. Many young trans people experience distress related to gender dysphoria, rejection and/or discrimination. However, being trans is not a mental health problem or condition.

Gender dysphoria is the distress felt by people whose gender identity (sense of being male, female or something else) differs from the sex assigned to them at birth. For some trans people, this difference can cause significant distress, negatively impacting mental health and limiting their participation in social and physical activities.

Referrals of young trans people to clinical services, such as The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Gender Service, have risen considerably in Australia and internationally. There is increasing evidence that supportive clinical care significantly improves young trans people's health and wellbeing, but many lack access to such care. Some of that care includes - gender related medical treatments including puberty suppression and hormones.

Dr Jillian Spencer is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who was suspended from the Queensland Children's Hospital in April 2023 for speaking up against gender interventions for children with gender distress. Since that time, she has repeatedly spoken out publicly about the harms to children from gender interventions. She remains suspended from work but there has been no finding of wrongdoing against her. She is waiting to receive a judgement from the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission as to whether she is a whistleblower.

Hour 2: The Liberation of Palestine
