Bible Study: Colossians Part II
Colossians 1:22-2:23
We begin this time examining how God reconciled us in the body of his flesh by death. We'll look at whether or not the traditional Jewish theory that the curse of sin and death in inherited through our fathers is true, or whether Jesus' flesh was cursed like ours is. We'll also answer what Paul means when he says we'll be presented blameless to God IF we continue in the faith, and what Paul means saying the gospel has been preached "to every creature."
We'll answer "the problem of evil" by the scripture. And is Paul joking when he says he's filling up what's behind of the afflictions of Christ? The answer lies in Paul's declaration that the dispensation of his gospel fulfills the word of God. Paul's fulfillment of god's word indicates that there remains no future revelation than that which was given in our existing Bible. The fulfillment of even the secret prophecy, hid in God of Ephesians 1:4 indicates the Bible, and God's story of the reconciliation of all things is in fact complete.
Hear Paul's warnings against the spoilers who beguile men by enticing word, philosophy, vain deceit, traditions of men and rudiments of the world. He warns against will worship, which is a show, and talk of things no one in our dispensation has seen, (like angels).
Find out about all the handwriting that was against us and contrary to us that Jesus nailed to his cross. Principalities and powers that he created, who were corrupted at the fall and were waiting to use them against us. But he took them out of the way and spoiled them in doing so. And he showed their defeat openly to the heavenly host.
We'll discuss the meanings of "will worship" and "voluntary humility" and religions, Catholic, Protestant and secular through the centuries since Paul. We point out the outright textual corruprions of the NIV, ESV and ASV regarding Col 2:18 and seeing angels. And finally Paul warns against following rudiments of the word and the traditions of men. Find out how Paul reveals God's will in Rom 6:9-11, “Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” That’s God’s will. That’s true philosophy!
