Severe flooding has swept through Jeddah after torrential rains dumped more than 179 millimetres of water in just six hours, a staggering contrast to the city’s usual November average of 23 millimetres. Saudi authorities issued a red alert as roads turned into rivers, neighbourhoods were submerged and emergency crews carried out multiple rescues. At least two deaths have been confirmed, with power outages, halted public transport and widespread gridlock reported across the coastal city. Schools and universities in Jeddah, Rabigh and Khulais shifted to remote learning, while weather warnings extended across Mecca, Asir, Al Baha, Tabuk, Qasim and Hail. Even the Red Sea International Film Festival was forced to shut down amid dangerous leaks and worsening conditions.
