INSANE 2025 Skydiving Save: Reserve Parachute Wraps Around Plane Tail at 15k ft – Skydiver Cuts Free

Incredible real footage from North Queensland, Australia (2025)
A skydiver’s reserve parachute deploys prematurely inside the Cessna 208, shoots out the door, and wraps tightly around the aircraft’s tail and horizontal stabilizer at 15,000 feet. The canopy drags the jumper while severely damaging the plane’s control surfaces.

With ice-cold composure, the skydiver pulls out his hook knife, slices the tangled lines to release the wrapped reserve, clears the remaining fabric, then deploys his main parachute and lands safely. The pilot manages to fly the damaged aircraft back to Tully airfield despite debris still flapping on the tail.

This is one of the most insane in-air recoveries ever captured on camera, and a perfect example of why skydivers train relentlessly for the 0.00045% chance something goes wrong.

Original incident investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

No injuries. Everyone walked away and most of the group jumped again the same day.
