Christmas began officially in the 4th century as the Feast of the Nativity, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. As the peoples of Europe embraced the Christian faith, they carried with them their ancient winter traditions, evergreens that survived the cold, candles lit against the darkness, songs, gifts, candy canes, and joyful gatherings of family and friends. Nothing was stolen; ancient and newer traditions simply blended into Christmas as we know it today, full of hope, generosity, family, and togetherness that still reflect the Light of Jesus born that holy night. Today, Christmas embraces them all: a season of light, love, and wonder for every nation and culture, yet always with the birth of Jesus shining at its heart.

That is why the holiday feels so universally human, ancient and so deeply Christian at the same time. This cultural richness is not a dilution, it is the Gospel bringing many peoples together under the holy light.
