A PIT maneuver, or Precision Immobilization Technique, is a tactic used by law enforcement during vehicle pursuits. An officer makes intentional contact with the fleeing vehicle’s rear quarter-panel using the front bumper, causing the suspect’s car to spin and come to a controlled stop. When performed correctly, it brings dangerous high-speed chases to an end quickly and as safely as possible.

We start in Volusia County, Florida, where Sheriff Mike Chitwood demonstrates a textbook PIT maneuver that shuts down a pursuit in seconds. The suspect, 24-year-old Christian Ottinot, was taken into custody and charged with fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, Florida’s super speeder violation, possession of cannabis, driving while license revoked, along with numerous criminal traffic charges. His bond was set at $8,500.
