Judge blocks Trump administration from deploying California National Guard members in Los Angeles

A federal judge in California, Charles Breyer, blocked the Trump administration from deploying California National Guard troops in Los Angeles and ordered control returned to Governor Gavin Newsom.

The ruling challenges the administration’s efforts to federalize roughly 300 Guardsmen under Title 10 for immigration enforcement, citing no evidence that federal law execution was hindered.

Breyer criticized the administration for effectively creating a “national police force” and taking an “expansive view” of presidential powers.

The order is temporarily stayed until Monday to allow the Justice Department time to appeal, CBS News has reported.

The decision follows similar blocks in Oregon and Illinois and underscores ongoing disputes over the federalization of state National Guard troops for immigration and other enforcement operations.
