Sisal - Yucatán - 4k - Walking tour - Parte 2
1 month ago
122
In the 16th century, Sisal became an important port for the henequen industry, as well as for the defense of the region, which is why trenches and fortifications were built. Ships from Europe also arrived in Sisal, but its main maritime connection was with Cuba, which led to a significant cultural change. Later, it was decided to move the port to Progreso, as it was closer to Mérida.
Currently, Sisal is a small town with a calm and serene character, inhabited by hospitable people. Sisal Beach has fine white sand, as well as bluish waters with gentle waves, making it ideal for swimming.
