Fort Atkinson, WI - No criminal charges will be filed against a Fort Atkinson officer after a deadly shooting in October 2025, the Jefferson County District Attorney reported Friday.
Jefferson County District Attorney Monica J. Hall said she reviewed witness statements, video evidence from Fort Atkinson Police Department and home surveillance camera footage from the home where the shooting took place at 5 p.m. October 26 on the 600 block of Washington Street.
Authorities stated they found “no evidence that a crime was committed by any law enforcement officer in this case.”
Hall stated several Fort Atkinson officers responded to the home for a report of shots fired.
Hall said video footage from one of the officer’s cameras shows them arriving to the scene and taking cover. One of the officers makes announcements on the radio that the suspect, Logan Krahn, was in “possession of a long gun.”
The officer then made another announcement that stated Krahn had a “bulge under his clothing that was consistent with it being a firearm.”
More than 20 minutes later, the officer’s body camera shows the officer saying, “Drop the rifle now.” Hall said the video shows an individual outside the front door of the home across the street from the officer’s location.
The officer then fired his gun multiple times toward the individual.
The suspect fell, and the officer announced, “Shots fired, suspect down.”
Body camera footage then showed the officer alert other officers that there was an AR-15 at Krahn’s side.
The Department of Justice reported that AR-15 was recovered.
Officers approached the suspect and began performing life-saving measures.
The home video footage also shows a similar timeline of these events.
At 5 p.m., the suspect raised a rifle to his right shoulder. As he raised the rifle, Hall stated, the video shows the officer yelling “Drop the rifle now.”
The suspect brought the rifle into a firing position, aiming it toward the officer.
Moments later, in the home video, Hall stated you can hear the officer yelling, “shots fired, suspect down.”
