After almost 25 years, Star Wars pod-racing is making its return, as Fuse Games and LucasFilm Games announced Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Fuse Games is a studio founded by former Criterion developers who have worked on the Burnout and Need For Speed series’.

Galactic Racer takes place after Return of the Jedi (so no Anakin this time unfortunately). From the trailer, there appears to be speeder bikes and pod racers. Fuse Games describes the gameplay as ‘runs-based racing’, which makes it sound like it will have roguelike elements. You play as a mysterious new character named Shade, who is trying to make a name for themselves in the shadowy world of gangsters and syndicates who sponsor the races and racers.

Some tracks will take place on Jakku from The Force Awakens, as unfortunately, LucasFilm seems determined to shoehorn elements from the unpopular sequel trilogy into their games still. The good news on that front is that Sebulba will be returning as well.

This will be the first Star Wars Racer game since Star Wars Racer Revenge for PlayStation 2 in 2002. The original Star Wars pod-racer was Star Wars Episode I: Racer in 1999, and its release on the Nintendo 64 coincided with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in theaters.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2026.
