The story follows Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, two best friends who migrate from Jamaica to London's East End. Thrust into a violent "melting pot," Hezekiah discovers a talent for bare-knuckle boxing. His skills draw the interest of Mary Carr, the leader of the Forty Elephants, who seeks to exploit his abilities for her criminal empire.
