The Actual Definitions
Democracy:
A system where the people hold sovereign power.
Pure (Direct) Democracy
Citizens vote directly on laws and policies.

Representative Democracy
Citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf.

Republic
A system where the people — or their elected representatives — govern under the rule of law, typically a constitution that:
Limits government power
Protects individual rights
Safeguards minorities from majority rule
