23

Proverbs 23 is organized into four divisions. The first section (verses 1-8) advises caution when associating with powerful people, emphasizing proper conduct and the pitfalls of greed and overindulgence. The second part (verses 9-11) stresses the importance of maintaining win-win ethical standards, like not moving ancient landmarks, reflecting God's advocacy for the weak and fatherless. The third division (verses 12-16) focuses on disciplining children out of love and instilling wisdom, which brings joy to the parents' hearts and inner being. Finally, the fourth section (verses 17-35) warns against the dangers of associating with drunkards and gluttons, describing the harmful consequences of overindulgence and lack of self-control.
