❄️ BRONX SNOW & ICE SAFETY — PLEASE READ AND SHARE ❄️
(Posted with care, wisdom, and love — In the Name of Jesus)

The Bronx is covered in snow and ice. What looks calm can turn dangerous in seconds. Slips, falls, and vehicle accidents happen not because people are careless, but because ice removes control. This post exists so everyone gets home safely.

👟 PROPER FOOTWEAR FOR SNOW & ICE (THIS MATTERS)

What you wear on your feet can save you from months of pain.

BEST OPTIONS
• Winter boots with rubber soles
• Shoes labeled non-slip or ice-grip
• Boots with deep tread patterns
• Add-on traction cleats / ice grips (very helpful)

AVOID
• Smooth-bottom sneakers
• Dress shoes
• Worn-down soles
• Hard plastic bottoms

If your shoes are not ideal:
➡️ Walk slower
➡️ Shorten steps
➡️ Use walls, rails, or fences for balance

🚶‍♀️ IF YOU ARE STANDING ON ICE AND TOO SCARED TO MOVE

This happens to many people. Do not panic.

DO THIS IN ORDER:

1️⃣ STOP COMPLETELY
Do not rush. Freezing is normal.

2️⃣ Lower your center of gravity
Slightly bend your knees.

3️⃣ Spread your feet a little wider
This increases stability.

4️⃣ Shuffle — don’t step
Slide one foot a few inches at a time, flat to the ground.

5️⃣ Look for texture
Aim for snow, dirt, footprints, or rough concrete.

6️⃣ Use support if nearby
Wall, car, pole, fence — touch lightly.

If you still feel unsafe:
➡️ Call or signal for help
➡️ Pride is not worth injury

♿ WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS & MOBILITY SUPPORT

• Avoid untreated sidewalks
• Rubber tips and winter wheels help
• Move slowly — ice removes braking control
• Caregivers: guide from the front
• Ask for help — this is wisdom

Neighbors:
➡️ If you see someone struggling, offer help immediately

🚗 DRIVING IN SNOW & ICE

• Clear all snow from vehicle
• Drive slower than posted limits
• Increase distance between cars
• Brake gently and early
• Avoid sudden turns

If you skid:
➡️ Do NOT slam brakes
➡️ Ease off pedals
➡️ Steer gently toward control

🧓 FOR SENIORS & THOSE AT HIGHER RISK

• Stay indoors if possible
• Wear traction aids
• Walk with someone when you can
• Keep phone accessible
• Avoid steps without salt

🏠 BUILDING & SIDEWALK RESPONSIBILITY

• Clear sidewalks quickly
• Salt generously
• Do not pile snow where it refreezes
• This protects lives, not just property

❤️ A WORD FOR THE BRONX

Snow reveals something important:
We all need each other.

Help slows us down — and saves lives.
Kindness travels faster than ice.

🙏 A SPECIAL PRAYER (FOR ANYONE WE MAY HAVE MISSED)

Father God,
We ask You now to cover every person we may not see — the tired worker, the elderly neighbor, the child, the caregiver, the delivery driver, the homeless, the fearful, and the alone.

Steady their steps.
Calm their hearts.
Protect their bodies.
Send help when needed.

We ask that no one slips, no one falls, no one is harmed, and no life is altered by injury today.

Wrap the Bronx in wisdom, patience, and love.
Let every step be guided.
Let every home be reached safely.

In the mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.

❄️ Stay safe. Look out for each other.
❤️ Love protects.
