Discipleship — Why We Read the Bible

Today we began our new Discipleship journey by asking a foundational question:
Why do followers of Jesus read the Bible?

2 Timothy 3:16–17 tells us that Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training so that we may be complete and equipped for every good work. If we want to grow as disciples, we must be shaped by God’s Word.

Here’s what we learned today:

• God’s Word is His voice.
Scripture isn’t advice — it’s revelation. (Heb. 4:12, Ps. 119:105)

• The Bible teaches truth and forms our worldview.
We unlearn the world’s lies and learn God’s truth. (John 17:17; Rom. 12:2)

• Scripture rebukes and corrects us.
God exposes the flesh and builds the fruit of the Spirit in us.
(Gal. 5:16–26; Ps. 141:5)

• It trains us in righteousness.
Just like physical training strengthens the body, Bible reading strengthens our spirit. (1 Tim. 4:7; Matt. 4:4)

• It equips us for every good work.
Every calling, trial, and ministry assignment is shaped by Scripture. (Josh. 1:8)

Discipleship starts with the Word.
And tomorrow, we’re going to talk about how to build a simple, sustainable daily Bible-reading habit that helps you hear God’s voice.
