Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit! Today I’m addressing the comments from my recent video where I talked about Ben Shapiro’s point that “if you can’t afford it where you are, move somewhere else.” I want to clarify what I actually meant, what people misunderstood, and why I think this truth — harsh as it sounds — reflects the reality we’re living in today.

Here’s what I get into in this reaction:

What I actually meant vs how people heard it: I wasn’t saying that’s how it should be — I was saying that’s how it is right now. Sometimes the cost of living in places like NYC, San Francisco, or other expensive cities just isn’t affordable for many people, and relocating to a more affordable place is often the only realistic option right now.

Why people react emotionally to this advice: Telling someone to move can feel cold — especially if they grew up somewhere, have family there, or built roots over generations. People are legitimately frustrated and hurt when they can’t afford rent or a home in the place they call home — and hearing “just move” can feel dismissive.

Why I still stand by the practical reality: The truth is that in America, migration for opportunity has always been part of our history. If job prospects, wages, and housing costs don’t match up where you are, moving to a place with better opportunity can help you build financial stability and avoid being trapped by high costs.

Policy vs reality: I’m not saying policies shouldn’t change to help people stay where they grew up. I’m saying right now, the system has gotten so unaffordable in many cities that the only immediate lever individuals have is mobility.

My take: We should want better policymaking — more affordable housing, sensible regulations, actual economic opportunity — but while those changes take years or decades, individuals have to make decisions that protect their financial future today.

I appreciate everyone who commented — even if we disagreed. Let’s keep the discussion respectful and thoughtful. If you found this perspective helpful, hit Like, Subscribe, and ring the bell. And tell me: Do you think moving is the only practical solution right now — or should we put more energy into changing policies so people can afford to stay?
