Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit! Today I’m reacting to Hero Hei’s video about Concord devs returning — this time on the new shooter Highguard — and why that’s setting off alarm bells for many gamers.

A lot of people online are calling Highguard “Concord 2” even though it’s from a different studio — largely because Concord was a huge flop after development and launch, getting pulled from sale and shut down just weeks after launch due to poor reception and low engagement.

In this reaction, I break down:

Why players are skeptical: The Highguard trailer got notably negative reactions online — with dislikes far outweighing likes — because it looks generic, uninspired, and overly familiar to other hero shooters instead of striking new ground.

Mediocre graphics and design fatigue: Fans have pointed out that, visually and stylistically, Highguard can easily be mistaken for Concord or other tired shooters, with bland character design that doesn’t stand out in a crowded market.

A saturated genre: Today’s shooter market is flooded with games borrowing the same hero-shooter, PvP loop, or generic aesthetic (Overwatch-style abilities, fantasy tech mish-mash, etc.). Most of these feel like re-runs rather than fresh experiences.

Concord’s legacy still looms: Even though Highguard has different developers and origins, Concord’s failure — including player criticisms of its art style and market impact — still makes people wary of “more of the same.”

I think the industry needs more bold ideas, unique art direction, and compelling gameplay mechanics — not the same formula repackaged with a slightly different coat of paint. Players have grown tired of hero shooters re-hashed without meaningfully new creativity.

If you’re as frustrated as I am with repetitive game announcements and lukewarm trailers, hit Like, Subscribe, and ring the bell. Let me know in the comments: What kind of innovation DO you want to see in shooters — and what makes a game worth hyping?
