The lead singer of Smash Mouth, Steve Harwell, passed away in September 2023 at age 56 from acute liver failure, following years of health issues including heart problems and substance abuse, leading to his retirement from the band in 2021. The band continues to tour with new vocalist Zach Goode, honoring Harwell's legacy as a charismatic frontman known for hits like "All Star" and "I'm a Believer".
