Tom and Jerry Cocktail
The Tom and Jerry is a warm, spiced holiday cocktail made with a batter of eggs, sugar, butter, and spices, to which rum, brandy, and hot milk are added. It is a traditional Christmas drink, often served in a mug, and is a variation of eggnog. The batter can be made ahead of time and refrigerated.
How to make a Tom and Jerry
1. Warm the mug: Rinse a mug with hot water to warm it, then discard the water.
2. Add batter and spirits: Add 1-2 tablespoons of Tom and Jerry batter to the mug, followed by 1 ounce each of rum and cognac.
3. Add hot milk: Fill the mug with hot milk, stirring constantly to combine the ingredients.
4. Garnish: Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg.

Tom and Jerry batter:
3 egg yolks and 3 egg whites
1 cup sugar
1/2 ounce dark rum
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar (for egg whites)

Instructions:
1. Beat the egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks with sugar, rum, and vanilla until combined.
3. Gently fold the egg yolk mixture into the egg whites.
4. Store the batter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
