A group of Venezuelan men believed they were being deported back to their home country. Instead, they were flown to CECOT, El Salvador’s notorious maximum-security mega prison. Once there, they were shackled, paraded before cameras, and locked away inside one of the most feared detention centers in the world.

According to reporting featured on 60 Minutes, many of these men were held for months under extreme conditions after entering the United States illegally. What they expected to be a deportation home turned into what they describe as months of hell behind bars.

This story raises uncomfortable questions about border enforcement, deportation policy, accountability, and what actually happens after someone is removed from the U.S. system. One thing is clear. Sneaking into countries is not a game and the consequences can be severe.
