Title: New Birth

Text: Luke 1:261-38

Vital Verse: “For nothing will be impossible with God.”— Luke 1:37

Nugget to Nibble: Gabriel has been called the angel of revelation since he brings insight to God’s servants (cf. Daniel 9:15-26; 9:21-27; Luke 1:11-20). He visited Elizabeth first, then Mary, who is engaged to Joseph in Nazareth, during the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy (Luke 1:26). With words of joy and kindness he says to Mary— “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). The salutation perplexed her, but not as much as the announcements:
First, Gabriel announced— Mary, you “found favor with God” (Luke 1:30)
Second, Mary, you will conceive and bear a son who shall be named Jesus (Luke 1:31).
Two miraculous conceptions occur: one in Judah for barren Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-40) and in Nazareth with the virgin Mary.
Both symbolize the possibilities with God, His supernatural authority over life and death, and the fulfilment of His divine plans. Our Lord use individuals to manifest His miraculous works. Elizabeth and Mary were willing and available. Neither understood the ramifications of their pregnancy. But their wombs carried a martyr of God (Elizabeth- John the Baptist) and the Messiah of the Word (Mary-Jesus Christ) (Matthew 14:1-12; 27:33-50).

Nazareth
The tiny village of Nazareth is located approximately 15 miles west of the southern edge of the Sea of Galilee and north of Samaria and Judea in the region of Galilee. A journey from Jerusalem to Nazareth took 3-5 days over the 65-70 miles.
