The FBI says it stopped a planned series of coordinated bombings set for New Year’s Eve in Southern California and arrested four suspects tied to an extremist offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front. Federal authorities say the group planned to use improvised explosive devices hidden in backpacks and detonate them at multiple locations at the same time across the Los Angeles area.

According to the Department of Justice, the suspects were arrested in mid-December in the San Bernardino and Lucerne Valley areas after investigators determined the threat was credible and imminent. Charging documents say the targets included businesses and ICE agents or vehicles. Officials described the suspects as aligned with far-left, anti-government, and anti-capitalist ideology.

The FBI and DOJ said the arrests prevented what they called a massive and dangerous attack and that federal terrorism and explosives charges are now moving forward. Authorities say the threat has been disrupted, but the investigation remains active as prosecutors prepare the case.
