Origins & Early Years:
Cotham Private Hospital was constructed and opened in 1970. It operated as a 60-bed facility with four operating theatres and numerous consulting suites under the ownership of Healthscope.

Closure & Sale:
In June 2018, Healthscope closed Cotham Private Hospital (alongside Geelong Private) after deeming them financially unviable. Approximately 124 staff lost their jobs. The 2,245 m² site was listed for about $15 million in September 2018. In December, it was purchased by Hamton Property Group for approximately $9.9–10 million, with plans for redevelopment.

Redevelopment & New Hospital:
Plans for apartments were ultimately shelved. Instead, Centuria Capital, in partnership with Medibank and a group of 42 doctors, initiated a redevelopment to provide a modern short-stay private hospital. Demolition of the old 1970s-era building took place in May 2022. Construction began in October 2022, aiming to deliver a $75 million facility named Adeney Private Hospital.

Adeney Private Hospital – The New Era:
The new four-storey, 4,696 m² hospital opened in February 2025, offering no-gap private healthcare for eligible patients (the first of its kind in Australia). It features 30 beds, four operating theatres, an endoscopy theatre, chemotherapy infusion clinic, radiology services, and an 80-space underground car park, targeting day procedures and short inpatient care.
