A Thankful People
Text: Psalms 100

Objective: that the brethren may live a thankful life style, with joy to the Lord

Intro:
Define: thanks/giving, joy/ful, life style, people

Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday or a polite habit—it’s a spiritual posture.
Psalm 100 is the only psalm in the Bible specifically labeled “A Psalm of Praise,” and it teaches us how to approach God with gratitude, joy, and reverence.
Thanksgiving is not optional for believers; it is the natural response of people who know who God is and what He has done.

1. A Thankful People Are A Joyful People
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.” (v.1)
- Thanksgiving begins with joy, not complaints.
- God invites “all lands”—every nation, every person—to rejoice in Him.
- Joy is not based on circumstances but on the unchanging character of God.
Application:
A thankful heart refuses to let circumstances silence its praise.

2. A Thankful People Are A Serving People
“Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” (v.2)
- True thanksgiving expresses itself in service, not just words.
- We don’t serve God grudgingly but with gladness.
- Singing is not just music—it is an attitude of worship.
Application:
Gratitude turns duty into delight. When we remember God’s goodness, serving Him becomes a privilege.

3. A Thankful People Know Who God Is
“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” (v.3)
Three truths fuel thanksgiving:
- He is God — He is sovereign, wise, and in control.
- He made us — We are not self-made; we are God-made.
- We belong to Him — We are His people, His sheep, under His care.
Application:
Thanksgiving grows when we remember our identity:
We are created, chosen, cared for, and cherished.

4. A Thankful People Approach God Properly
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (v.4)
- Thanksgiving is the gateway into God’s presence.
- Praise is not a warm-up—it is the way in.
- “Bless His name” means to speak well of God, to honor Him openly.
Application:
Before we ask God for anything, we should thank Him for everything.

5. A Thankful People Remember Why God Deserves Praise
“For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (v.5)
Three unchanging reasons to give thanks:
- The Lord is good — His nature is kindness.
- His mercy is everlasting — His love never runs out.
- His truth endures — His promises never fail.
Application:
Our gratitude is rooted not in what changes, but in what never changes.

A LIFESTYLE OF THANKSGIVING
Psalm 100 teaches us that thanksgiving is:
- Joyful
- Worshipful
- Rooted in truth
- Expressed in service
- Anchored in God’s goodness
Thanksgiving is not a season—it is a lifestyle.
Not a reaction—it is a decision.
Not a suggestion—it is a command.

- Reflect on God’s goodness
- Remember His mercy
- Recommit to joyful service
- Enter His presence with thanksgiving every day

Message/conclusion:
Let us live a life of thankfulness, with joy to the Lord.
