Third Term for Trump?
Is the Constitution really as “settled” as the media claims?

According to the Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump recently met in the Oval Office with constitutional lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who presented him with a draft of his upcoming book, Could President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term? Dershowitz argues that while the 22nd Amendment bars someone from being elected more than twice, it may not close the door in every conceivable scenario.

Dershowitz says Trump listened with interest, smiled, and moved on—yet the conversation has reignited speculation after Trump teased “Trump 2028” merchandise and allies floated unconventional legal pathways. Meanwhile, critics insist the idea is blatantly unconstitutional and little more than political theater.

The debate doesn’t stop there.

Steve Bannon claims multiple alternatives are already being explored to return Trump to the White House, boldly predicting Trump will be president again on January 20, 2029. Major donor Miriam Adelson reportedly expressed enthusiasm for Dershowitz’s theory, while Rep. Andy Ogles says he plans to introduce legislation arguing Trump’s non-consecutive terms justify a third run.

Legal scholars are pushing back hard, calling the theories “absurd.” But supporters say the mere discussion exposes cracks in how power, elections, and constitutional limits are interpreted.

Is this serious constitutional debate—or pure political provocation?
