Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami Digital Entertainment in 2024. It is a retelling of the 2001 video game of the same name, reinterpreted with a new script, new story threads and alternate endings, and reworked puzzles and gameplay.

Labyrinth - Rotten Area:

James Sunderland enters the Rotten Area, a collapsing, insect-infested section of the Labyrinth where rot, decay, and entrapment dominate both the environment and the narrative. Navigating a maze of steel grates patrolled by Mandarins, James must choose between stealth or reckless speed while gathering the lighter components—Lighter Gas, Wick, and a Broken Lighter—hidden behind ambushes from Mannequins, Lying Figures, and Bubble Heads. Exploration uncovers unsettling locations like a flooded bathroom, abandoned apartments, and a hidden room containing the Severed Noose, reinforcing the area’s themes of execution and punishment. After assembling the Lighter and burning through the rope suspending the central cage, James drops into the darkness below and escapes the Rotten Area, returning to the Labyrinth’s core to unlock the path toward the Desolate Area.

Labyrinth - Desolate Area:

James Sunderland unlocks the Desolate Area of the Labyrinth by manipulating the Rotating Cube, entering a bleak, prison-like space filled with wall-crawling Mannequins, flooded tunnels, and signs of recent violence. While navigating the Flooded Area, James retrieves the Small Key to open sealed gates and descends deeper underground, where acidic Lying Figures and collapsing passages increase the sense of isolation. The tension peaks when Pyramid Head begins stalking the area, forcing James to flee rather than fight as he passes through the executioner’s foundry and unlocks the “Inner Sanctum” achievement. After securing the Wirecutters, cutting through the final chain-link barrier, and surviving one last chase, James leaps into another bottomless pit, returning to the Labyrinth’s center and opening the path to the Ruined Area.

Labyrinth - Ruined Area:

James Sunderland enters the Ruined Area, the final and most violent section of the Labyrinth, where collapsing apartment spaces erupt into relentless combat encounters against reanimating monsters and Mandarins lurking beneath steel-mesh floors. After surviving multiple sealed-room battles, James is stalked once more by Pyramid Head, using the executioner’s presence to dispel the writhing barrier blocking his escape rather than defeating him outright. The Rotating Cubes are ultimately destroyed, allowing James to wield Pyramid Head’s great knife to force open the Labyrinth’s exit, leading him through a graveyard and into a psychological breaking point. The chapter culminates in a brutal boss fight against Eddie Dombrowski in the meat locker, after which James escapes Silent Hill’s underworld by canoe across Toluca Lake, arriving at the Lakeview Hotel as the final act of his journey begins.
