Stephen M. Vantassel, host of the Wildlife Control Consultant Podcast, summarizes the research by Dennis Ferraro a professor of herpetology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He studied whether naphthalene, sulfur, lime, or bare soil repelled Plains garter snakes. He performed two studies on properties outside of Omaha, NE. His results are revealed here. His article was entitled, The efficacy of naphthalene and sulfur repellents to cause avoidance behavior in the plains garter snake, published in the 12th Great Plains Wildlife Damage Control Workshop Proceedings in 1995 pp. 116-120.
