Gameplay Part 7 (Finale)

Investigating a letter from his late wife, Mary, James Sunderland returns to where they made so many memories - Silent Hill. What he finds is a ghost town, prowled by disturbing monsters and cloaked in deep fog. Confront the monsters, solve puzzles, and search for traces of your wife in this remake of SILENT HILL 2.

Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami Digital Entertainment in 2024. It is a retelling of the 2001 video game of the same name, reinterpreted with a new script, new story threads and alternate endings, and reworked puzzles and gameplay.

In this playthrough we cover:

Lakeview Hotel:

James Sunderland arrives at the Lakeview Hotel after crossing Toluca Lake, exploring its once-elegant grounds and abandoned interior while collecting key items like the Room 312 Key, figurines, and Laura’s letter, which deepens the mystery surrounding Mary’s final days. As the hotel gradually shifts through time from merely empty to fully decayed, James navigates the Sunrise Wing, West Wing, and upper floors, solving major puzzles such as the Reading Room bookshelf, vanity mirror, and the elaborate music box tied to the Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Mermaid figurines. The story intensifies in the restricted Employee Section, where James stealthily avoids Mandarins to recover the videotape and confronts unsettling truths hidden from guests. A cathartic boss fight with a Mandarin and the retrieval of the Venus Tears Bar key further underline the hotel’s symbolic decay and James’s emotional unraveling. Ultimately, solving the music box puzzle grants access to Room 312, where the videotape awaits—setting up the game’s emotional climax and revealing the full truth behind Mary, James’s guilt, and why Silent Hill called him back.

Lakeview Hotel - Otherworld:

After watching the videotape in Room 312, James is thrown into the Otherworld Lakeview Hotel, now a burned, collapsing ruin that reflects the truth he’s been avoiding. Exploration becomes bleak and symbolic as rooms yield little reward, familiar spaces crumble, and James briefly reunites with Angela, whose fate underscores the game’s themes of trauma and self-destruction. The descent culminates in a brutal boss fight against the Dual Pyramid Heads, forcing James to confront the embodiment of his guilt and punishment one final time. Upon defeating them, James collects the Scarlet Egg and Rust-Colored Egg, and his choice of which door to exit through directly influences the game’s ending, leading into Silent Hill 2’s final resolution.

Finale (Leave Ending):

In the finale, James walks down a long, empty corridor while listening to Mary’s final letter, a quiet moment that reinforces the game’s themes of guilt, grief, and acceptance. At the end of the path, James faces the final boss, Her—a manifestation of his unresolved trauma—in a multi-phase battle that echoes earlier enemies like Flesh Lips and Mandarins. After defeating Her, the outcome is determined by how James has carried himself throughout the journey rather than raw gameplay stats. In the LEAVE ending, James accepts the truth about Mary, receives her forgiveness, and walks away from Silent Hill with Laura, symbolizing emotional closure and the possibility of moving forward.
