AN OSAGE CRAFTS CANNONS® / MAX ALLEN MASTERPIECE
This was designed and constructed by Osage Crafts Cannons; then I joined in.

This is a masterpiece of a howitzer. My friends at Osage Crafts Cannons designed and constructed the cannon and sent it to me in an extremely well-packed crate. I’ve replaced the wheels with non-pneumatic tires and painted the wheel hubs to a shade of green close to that of the Cannon itself.

I’ve replaced certain bolts on the cannon for aesthetics and used lock washers wherever it can be done. I secured the shields with bolts the same color as the shields. And that was purely great luck when I found them at the local farm supply. I’ve employed nut covers to protect exposed nuts and lock washers while still looking good. I’ve replaced the elevation control handle with a hand wheel. Then I went ahead and added another hand wheel to control pressure on the elevation screw.

The tail wheel and all critical bolt surfaces have been painted flat black. I’ve installed a barrel plug which is color coordinated with the cannon as well as keeping the bore clean. The elevation screw has been lubed with lithium grease for smoother elevation control.

In all, what I’ve done is simply “putting wallpaper on the walls” … decorating and tweaking appearance and some function of the cannon. Keep in mind the ramrod made from 5/8” dowel with a golf ball for a handle, and the bore brush … both have burned-patterns on their wooden surfaces to blend with the cannon. I found the bore brush online. It’s designed for cleaning the condenser beneath the fridge.

Thanks to Robert at Osage Crafts Cannons.
