Eagles Nest is a cruel place for a camp—high and proud, carved into the wind. My first attempt at this outpost was arrogance dressed as courage; I misread their rotations and paid for the lesson with a near miss. Patience is a shinobi’s true blade, and I needed to sharpen it. On my second approach, I moved like winter itself—slow, deliberate, and utterly focused. From the ridge I slid down into the bushes and let the mountain hide me until the moment was right.

The first two guards went quiet before they knew what had taken them. A kunai and a silent blade made short work of an archer who had stayed to taste his meager rations, thinking himself safe. A third came to investigate and disappeared into the snow like a memory. Two men at the gate never heard the wind change; a precise throw, a soft step, and they folded into the night. Small, careful motions. The camp grew smaller with each quiet end.

Then came the General and his second—targets that cannot be swept away with mere tricks. The second was poor at his post; he investigated my ruse and fell as the others had. The General, though, was a different weight. Fat with comfort and rusted by ease, he had lost the reflexes true men keep with their breath. I stepped into the open where he could see me and forced his world to rearrange in a single heartbeat. Bloodshade answered more roughly than the kunai; my strikes carved a path through armor and arrogance. He would not walk again.

I left his body to the mercy of the mountain and gathered the supplies and mon I had been hired to retrieve. The lesson I paid for the first time was paid back tenfold in coin and clarity: plan, wait, then move. The path continues and the people needing aid do not wait for my mistakes. I will carry what I took to those who need it and sharpen my patience for the next trial.
