Pulling Down Giants (DOYC Live 12/27/2025)

Survey the mythologies of ancient cultures around the world, and you will find similar stories about supernatural beings mating with natural women and producing a special breed of people--giants. Holy Scripture tells us that giants ruled the world for a time, before the Flood of Noah. But even after the Flood, Abraham and his descendants had to deal with tribes of gigantic brutes who were more than just physical obstacles--they were also moral degenerates.

When referencing giants, the Bible uses two closely related word, "nephilim" and "rephaim." It also gives the names of several tribes comprised of giants, and those names have interesting meanings. In this sermon, we discuss where all these giants came from, and what the various Hebrew terms can tell us about these strange characters.

The Bible also speaks of dark entities, shades who roam aimlessly, goat-demons that haunt deserts and seek to indwell unprotected hosts. Where did these entities come from? Surprisingly, the answer relates directly to the giants of old.

Beyond all of that, we tackle the mystery of the "bulls of Bashan" that surrounded Jesus in the spirit realm during his crucifixion.
