The Detroit Red Wings saw their three-game winning streak snapped with a 5–2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. John Gibson’s personal eight-start winning streak also came to an end, and the team will need to respond quickly with an important matchup against Toronto on the schedule.
Meanwhile, the Grand Rapids Griffins continue to make history. The Griffins earned their 15th straight victory, tying the franchise record for the longest winning streak in team history. Goaltender Sebastian Cossa recorded his fourth shutout of the season, stopping all shots he faced and even adding an assist on an empty-net goal in another dominant performance.
There is also positive news out of the ECHL, as the league and the PHPA have reached a tentative agreement, allowing players to return to their teams in good faith and bringing an end to the work stoppage.
At the international level, the IIHF World Junior Championship is underway, with three Detroit Red Wings prospects in action as Team USA and Team Slovakia took the ice.
All of it — Red Wings, Griffins, ECHL, and World Juniors — covered all in 7 minutes.
