Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit. Today I’m reacting to a video about a Methodist pastor in upstate New York who announced a gender transition in the middle of a Sunday service — right from the pulpit in front of the congregation.

As many of you already know, church services are about God, Scripture, worship, and spiritual teaching — not personal identity announcements or political statements. When a pastor uses the sermon time to share something so personal and controversial, it doesn’t just distract from God’s message — it shifts the focus directly onto the pastor. That’s the opposite of what church leadership should do.

Here’s my honest take on this situation:

I’m critical of the choice to make this announcement during worship. A pastor’s job is to draw people toward God, not make oneself the center of attention in the service — especially when it involves a personal identity issue that isn’t directly related to Scripture or spiritual teaching.

Church is God’s house, not a platform for personal agendas. Worship time should uplift and center the congregation on faith, prayer, and connection with God — not pivot to issues that can be distracting, divisive, or confusing for people who came to worship.

I’m also critical of the people and church leaders who approve of this kind of announcement in a service. When leadership allows a pastor to turn Sunday worship into a personal identity reveal, it sets a precedent where the focus shifts away from God to human experience, often in ways that contradict what the Bible teaches about pastoral care and church priorities.

Churches should be spaces that unite people around faith and holiness, not places where the spotlight is put on clergy and their personal statements in a way that divides congregants or shifts the message. What happened here doesn’t feel like a shepherd leading his flock — it feels more like a promotion of personal ideology under the guise of spiritual authority.

If you believe church should stay focused on God and not on individual identity politics, hit Like, Subscribe, and ring the bell so we can keep discussing serious topics like this. Then tell me in the comments: Do you think pastors should share personal life changes during a worship service — or is that something that should be communicated more privately and respectfully outside of service time?
