Trust
Text: Luke 8:10, Deuteronomy 29:29
When does it seem hardest to trust God?
It’s easy to say, “God, I trust You.” But what lets me know if that’s true for me?
Years ago, as a young teen, I was at the home of an uncle who had just lost his wife, and someone asked how he was doing. He made a statement that has stayed with me all my life.
“What I know to be true about God helps me handle all the thing I don’t understand.”
A major element about trust means what I know to be true about God is greater than all the circumstantial evidence that seems play to my not understanding.
All the questions that seem to color my trust.
All the “what if’s” the enemy raises to question the goodness of God.
The extent / reality of my trust becomes most apparent when things turn out differently than what we expected or prayed for.
When I make a choice to trust even when I don’t understand, and I don’t have answers.
An interesting to look at the contrast between the OT covenant, and the NT covenant.
When Jesus told the parable of the Sower, His disciples asked, “what does it mean?”
Lk.8:9-10
In this day we live, Jesus said, the “mysteries of the kingdom” are now shared with those who’s heart wants to understand.
It appears to me, that with the relationship we have with Father God today, He shares His secrets, mysteries to those who “want” that intimacy.
Ver.8:10b Passion Translation – “But to those without a listening heart, My words are merely stories. Even though they have eyes, they are blind to the true meaning of what I say, and even though they listen, they won’t receive full revelation.”
How should this affect my prayer? “God I want to have a listening heart, a heart that seeks after You – whether I understand or not – God, share You secrets with me.”
Frequently I need to have a stern talk to Gary – “Pr 3:5-8 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.” NKJV
