In this video, I examine how the Carney government’s decision to recognize Palestine as an independent state — widely framed as virtue signaling — may have created a dangerous precedent that could come back to haunt Canada.

Using constitutional principles established during the Quebec separation reference, I explore what happens if Alberta holds a clear referendum, Ottawa is seen as negotiating in bad faith, and another country — such as the United States — were to unilaterally recognize Alberta as an independent state.
