When Care Turns Into Exploitation

During this Estimates session, I raised shocking cases of overcharging in Aged Care packages.

✅ David and Sandra Smith were slugged $3,000 for a tiny, unfinished gardening job—then couldn’t afford other medical services.

✅ Garry Bayliss lost $14,000 just to replace timber railings.

Complaints to the Commission? Ignored. No answers. No accountability.

Now they want to introduce co-payments—while charging $100+ per hour for basic services. This is not “quality care.” - in fact, it amounts to institutional elder abuse.

I will not stop fighting for fairness and dignity in Aged Care.
