Police departments say they lack resources to solve serious crime — yet Missouri and several other states are using airplanes to track and ticket drivers for speeding. Missouri State Highway Patrol uses aircraft, stopwatches, and painted road markers to calculate speed from the sky and relay it to officers on the ground.
States including Ohio, Florida, California, Colorado, and Wisconsin still use aerial speed enforcement, while others have stopped due to cost concerns. With aircraft operations costing millions per year, critics are questioning law enforcement priorities.
