We begin Daniel chapter 11 today. We will call it part 1 because we won't be able to get all the way through it today. This chapter is so full of what can be considered as pre-written history--prophecy that turned out to be so accurate that Bible critics claimed that it had to be written after the fact because of its thorough accuracy with what secular history recorded.
Chapter's 10, 11, and 12 are considered to be referencing the same vision that Daniel had. An angel was speaking to Daniel in chapter 10--after he had been detained for 21 days by the prince of Persia. This angel is still speaking to Daniel here in chapter 11. This chapter deals with the Grecian Empire under Alexander the Great leading Greece to be the third of those four Gentile Empires that will rule the world until the Lord returns to set up His own Kingdom. Alexander died at an early age, had not heirs to pass the kingship to, and the kingdom was divided into four territories led by four of Alexander's generals. The main two of interest in this chapter were the Seleucids and the Ptolemies. The Seleucids ruled the North, Syria, and were the Antiochus dynasty. Ptolemy ruled Egypt in the South. These two fought against each other for a long time, and Israel, as the Glorious Land, suffered because of the wars because they were between the two.
