This Week’s Lesson

Today we are in Lesson-03 in the series “Preserving the Covenant Community” from the book of Esther.

This is Volume III of our series: “After the Exile” a study of Ezra-Nehemiah-Esther.

The lesson is titled “A Dastardly Plot and A Desperate Plea - Part I” and our focus passage is Esther 3.

Please find your way in your Bible to that passage.

Review of Our Previous Lesson

In our previous episode, we completed our study of Esther 1-2, “The Queen is Gone; Long Live The Queen.”

In these two chapters we witnessed the fall of Queen Vashti and the rise of Queen Esther.

In Esther 1 we saw that after a lavish banquet celebration, a drunk and prideful King Ahasuerus ordered Queen Vashti to appear before all his guests.

Vashti refused which angered the king and on the advice of his council he ordered that Vashti be deposed immediately. This set the stage for the events of Esther 2.

In that chapter we saw Esther rise as the new Queen of Persia. It was after 3 years since the events recorded in chapter 1 and after one year of preparation for Esther.

We saw that in all things and at all times, God is control. He is Sovereign.

We should always remember that God’s providence works
to accomplish His plans and bless His people.

Introduction to Today’s Lesson

In today’s lesson we begin our study of Esther 3-4. The events of chapters 1-2 have positioned both Esther and Mordecai in positions of influence.

God providentially set the stage for their next steps as they will both be needed by the Jewish community living in Persia.

Let’s get started.
