Hey everyone — it’s Leaflit! In today’s video I’m reacting to a viral investigative video by Nick Shirley titled “I Investigated Minnesota’s Billion Dollar Fraud Scandal.” In his 42-minute report, Nick goes to a number of childcare centers, health service providers, and social-assistance businesses in Minnesota that appear to have received millions in taxpayer funding — yet many of them look deserted, locked up, or offer no visible services when he visits.

Shirley claims what he’s seeing could be one of the biggest fraud schemes in U.S. history — alleging that government funds are being misused at daycare and welfare-related facilities that aren’t actually serving children or patients at all. He points to things like Centers licensed for dozens of kids but no children present, doors locked in the middle of the day, and funding numbers that don’t seem to match reality.

This video has sparked national outrage and scrutiny — not just from everyday viewers, but also politicians and federal authorities. The FBI and Homeland Security have stepped in to investigate broader fraud concerns in the state, and federal childcare payments have even been temporarily halted pending stronger oversight.

Here’s how I feel about it:

I’m critical of anyone abusing the system. If people or businesses are taking taxpayer money for services they’re not actually providing, that’s not just wrong — that’s stealing from hard-working Americans and families who rely on these programs to function properly.

I’m supportive of Nick Shirley for bringing this to light. Independent reporting like this — especially when it prompts real investigations by federal authorities and auditors — is important. When normal journalists weren’t asking these questions, his on-the-ground coverage got people paying attention.

That said, the situation is still unfolding. Minnesota officials have pushed back and said their inspections didn’t find fraud during recent visits, and independent fact-checkers note that some of the specific allegations in the video haven’t yet been officially confirmed.

But whether it’s true exactly as claimed or not, this raises real concerns about oversight, accountability, and how public funds are being spent — and we owe it to taxpayers to get to the bottom of it.
