On January 19, 1942, at the first Nazi death camp in Chełmno, Poland, Polish Jewish prisoners forced to bury gas van victims plot a desperate escape. Using a stolen glass shard to cut through a transport truck, Solomon Wiener and Michael Podchlebnik flee into the forest, pursued by guards. Braving rivers, soldiers, and police, they become the first to escape a death camp, determined to alert the world to the Holocaust's horrors.
