In Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States tried to impose Western systems on societies that had never embraced them, where religious and cultural structures demand submission to authority and leave little room for individual liberty. You cannot nation-build where freedom is incompatible with the underlying belief system.
Venezuela is different. The people know what they lost. They remember elections that mattered, businesses that operated freely, churches that weren’t controlled by the state, and a middle class that thrived. Removing a criminal regime and returning power to a population that already understands liberty is not occupation — it’s restoration.
The media doesn’t want to have this conversation because it destroys their favorite narrative: that America is always the problem. But the truth is simple. Helping a free people reclaim their country is not imperialism. Letting a socialist dictator destroy a nation while exporting chaos to our hemisphere is the real crime.
