Dark Age Dwarfs & Medieval Giants
Dark Age Dwarfs & Medieval Giants—Oh my!
by Monty L. Collier
As modern society falls deeper into medieval thinking, as we see a technological savvy neo-feudalistic society emerging right before our eyes, it’s not surprising that we hear more and more Dark Age sayings promoting tradition over Scripture alone.
Today, nominal Protestants and papist whores enjoy disseminating the Dark Age notions of that evil and heretical system known as Roman Catholicism, by saying things like: “We obtain our beliefs by standing on the shoulders of theological giants, who came before us.”
By “theological giants,” these chumps do not mean the doctrines explicitly stated and validly deduced from Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura).
Instead, these dorks believe we must stand on the shoulders of sinful, uninspired, prone to err, finite theologians, such as the Westminster divines, John Calvin, Thomas Aquinas, the so-called “church fathers,” and so on.
By contrast, we stand on Christ alone,by grace alone, through faith alone, according to Scripture alone—and all to the glory of God alone. We test the teachings and writings of sinners against Scripture alone (Isaiah 8:20, 1 Corinthians 4:6).
This papist idea that our beliefs depend on traditions being passed down to us from “professional theologians,” creeds, confessions, monks, and popes is what gave birth to medieval scholasticism, the inquisition, the crusades, and so on.
Also emerging with this neo-feudalistic society, we are seeing a retarded stepchild of the Dark Ages materialize before us: so-called “Protestant Scholasticism.”
At any rate, the cry of many papist whores can be traced back to Bernard of Chartres (circa 1130). He wrote:
“We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants; we see more things than the ancients and things more distant, but this due neither to the sharpness of our sight nor the greatness of our stature, but because we are carried and elevated by the high stature of the giants.”
(Medieval Universities And The Birth of Scholasticism, Introduction, page 17)
Compare that Dark Age papist remark to Scripture alone:
“I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.”
(Psalm 119:99-100)
The Psalmist appeals to Scripture alone, while the Papist Bernard appeals to tradition passed down by sinful theologians and so-called “church fathers.”
I remind the reader: Christian beliefs come from Scripture alone, for the Bible alone is the Word of God.
